- Winter Maids Ii Poem by Georgios Venetopoulos

- Winter Maids Ii

The twilight lingers in the sky
as branches touch the dusky eaves,
befogging spreads in silence high,
a quilt of white, his mind deceives.

Thus, sleep enfolds the white surrounds,
this time of dusk that forwards lies,
the aptitude of night abounds,
whate'er has leaned on skylight, dies.

The drizzle drops upon his scripts
as street lights blink their yellow tears,
the winter maids have sealed their lips
to glide on frozen lake frontiers.

Amid the snowflakes laugh and cry
while silent snow forever falls;
so picturesque in dusk and wry
defies in woods his voice and calls.

Unsounded drops in darkness blend,
conceived answers drift and rule,
lighthearted laughs in air extend
inside the snow's betrothing tulle.
