Winter Pansies Poem by C Richard Miles

Winter Pansies

They almost passed me by
In borders of the grass
But they caught my eye
In shade of tall Gooch House.

Winter pansies bright,
In multicoloured forms,
Came into my sight,
Edging round the lawns.

But the different hues
In every rainbow shade
Yellow, reds and blues
Beautifully arranged.

Sadly shook my head
Grim garbage did I spot
In that flower bed
Which someone had dropped.

Orange blossoms full
Charm added to the mix
But cans of Red Bull
Knocked my thoughts for six.

And then other Redds,
The bitter of that ilk,
Spoilt the blooming beds
Like moths attacking silk.

Litter should be thrown
Into the provided bin;
Leave flowers with their own
Charm, our hearts to win.
