With Covid Still Amidst Us Poem by Deanna Samuels

With Covid Still Amidst Us

With Covid still amidst us
Whether in the house or workplace
The world is living with this virus each and every day
Even overcoming any new variant, it does not go away

Omicron, the latest Covid-19 strain
Took over from the dominant Delta reign
Only a few weeks from coming out of Africa
Swiftly took control infiltrating every capita

Whatever governments attempt to do
To stop the spread, reduce and subdue
Closing down businesses, reduce waiting seats
This new variant, Omicron is hard to beat

It permeates through every door and window
No barrier can deem to hold its spread at bay
Masks are now a must, cloth ones prove not protective
KN95 is the recommended, safer for preventive

Even when had full vaccine jabs and booster
No guarantee to detain this creeping unseen monster
Waits quietly for that gulp of air to breathe
Penetrates to lungs and organs without reprieve

Untold millions have fallen under this Omicron spell
A worldwide scourge, how many, no one can tell
There is a consolation though, not quite as deadly
Contracted, behaves like a bad flu or cold abjectly

When will this end, when will life again be free
Free to decide at any time where would want to be
As yet, know not, while Omicron remains rampant within
That horizon will happen though, then renewal will begin
