Without My Tongue Poem by Jack Ashenden

Without My Tongue

What would I be without my tongue? ,
for all I do doth depend on it.
Could I survive? learn while I am young
to be successful, not fall in the pit.

Perhaps I might move with written words,
gain fame and fortune with but a pen.
Yet a voiceless, insufferable nerd
will never be able to move men.

Such a tragedy I could not survive,
eloquence is all that I do have.
The ability to convince has kept me alive,
and to lose my speech would be a bitter stab.

Yet perhaps I am foolish, perhaps there is a way -
for I mustn't forget, I will be a poet someday.
