Without Them. Poem by P.m O' Halloran

Without Them.

Without them there would be no need to be competitive,
Without them there would be nothing to live up to,
Without them you’re the only one who would know your secrets,
Without them you could cry and not know why you’re crying,
Without them you wouldn’t strive to be a contrasting individual-
you just would be

Without them your belongings would be just that
Without them you wouldn’t be just a comparison
Without them there would be no need to assess
& evaluate all that you do, yearning to reach your aspirations,
Which are only their achievements to begin with

Without them there would be no scars or bruises
Without them there would be no one for you to protect and defend,
Given that it’s within your blood to do so

Without them you would not strive to be above everybody else
Without them wouldn’t life be so much easier?
But without them…who are you.

A very fine structure. One of the best renditions of its kind. I admire the creativity and the vision of this philosophical piece. Memorable. Clear. Meaningful. Absolutely fabulous. Worthy of your great Irish tradition. Well done! GW62
