Woezor-Welcome Poem by Padmore Enyonam Agbemabiese

Woezor-Welcome

do you wish to be here
close to my heart

where are your papers
what is your purpose

are you lost or
are you broken

maybe, the chamber of
my heart is for your safety

but, remember where you came from
I was not there
I was here

if you wish to naturalize in my arms
let me tell you openly
tread softly and gently
death too first makes inquiry
before it shows at the door

in simple steps come
pledge allegiance to my tattered soul
and we’ll get to the streets
that are paved with gold

Woezor: it means Welcome in Ewe, a Ghanaian language.
