Wondering! ! Poem by SHARON YAKOWA

Wondering! !

Here we go again
Calling each other names
Acting insane
For what has been described as vain
To what end? .
Politicians with the use of religion
and ethnicity
In our nation must be banned and thrown in the ocean.
What is the cause?
Who suffers the loss?
All this must be looked upon.
Haven't we learned enough?
Haven't we suffered enough?
This is no longer a song
Just emptiness of a drum.
I am here, a son of the sun
I am here crying for children unknown
African women, battered and raped
Men who refuse to let go of hate,
My African leaders
Life is sacred not a game.
Making my leaders market traders
No creed, just greed acting a king
As power and money have driven men mad, Lies no hope for that African child.
In moments of clarity;
I ask,
How long will all this last?
How far is too far? .
With all this Mephistopheles
As guilty as dust and sin
killing our saintly clime
While misfortune troubles our land
In almost every direction of the wind
From North to the east, south and west
Yet we remain "toothless fowls".
