Would I have...
sung
to the dark universe,
shouted
to the luminous angels
how
I kept
the earth
in just that noble way,
slid down
the virtuous path
as ghosts slip
through walls,
but my flesh
is red with thorns,
my soul has holes
that stars peer through.
Would I have...
stretched the music
across the lilies
in the valley,
up the happiness
of clouds,
around and under
the lovers
of such things,
perhaps the ravens
would sing
of me,
perhaps the earth
would paint me with
delicious shoes,
but I am
one loneliness
awaiting another.
Would I have.
