Wrong Expectations, Actually Poem by Edwina Reizer

Wrong Expectations, Actually

Rating: 3.5

I placed the shell up to my ear
and thought I heard the sea.
Actually what I heard was the blood
that was coursing all through me.

I placed the watch around my wrist
and thought I knew the time.
Actually what I saw were numbers
reminding me that I’m
late.

I placed the pen upon my pad
and thought I’d write a poem.
Actually the only thing I wrote
were rambling thoughts that roam.
