Xylophagou Poem by Elia Michael

Xylophagou

Rating: 4.0

Xylo means wood phagou means eat
Lots of reasons for this village's name
But show me just one fact, I entreat
In support of any such claim

Listen not to any learned babble
Wood and eat - that is the crux
Aught else, I say with tact, just waffle
Or I purport, just a load of horrocks!

Be it horrocks or bollocks this succint cumundrum is humorous and esoteric. The explained prefix and suffix to the proper noun are a great debate and the town should be honoured as every woody tree contains xylem and phloem, and many trees are eaten by insects such as termites so perhaps this town although quite crude could be better known as 'Termite Food'.
