Yahweh Had A Wife? Poem by Tor Magnor Solvang

Yahweh Had A Wife?

A whispered thought, a story old,
Of God, not solitary, brave and bold.
But with a partner, by his side,
A goddess, where their love could ride.

The ancient texts, they start to gleam,
With hints of her, a vibrant dream.
Asherah, known in lands of old,
Beside her Yahweh, so we, re told.

Scholars ponder, dig and seek,
For signs in dust, for words they speak.
From Middle East, where history lies,
New findings wake forgotten skies.

Professor Gudme, wise and keen,
Says faiths have changed, a shifting scene.
For God, she says, has roots so deep,
From older tales, secrets to keep.

Once many gods, in lands they knew,
Yahweh was one, among the few.
Then one grew strong, his name was heard,
The single God, his mighty word.

But Asherah's name, it still appears,
In ancient writings, calming fears.
Though some still doubt, and some agree,
Her presence lingers, wild and free.

For faith's a journey, long and wide,
With tangled threads, where truths reside.
A complex past, a winding way,
Than what we know, in our day.
