Year Zero P.10 (2021) Poem by DM W

Year Zero P.10 (2021)

O sex & drugs may
Satiate for a brief time.
Yet they can never
Transcend the utter horror
Of inner despair.
Rather than enlighten, they
Chain us to the walls
Of our collective prisons.
We're sold on the lie
That constant hedonism,
Consumerism
Is good for economies.
It's propaganda!
So many roads to nowhere
Modern gadgets that
Can outrun time, but tell us
Nothing pertinent
About ourselves. They do not
Provide humane ways
Of how we can relate to
Others and the world:
Technological madness!
So many drowning
In bitter wells of their hearts;
Origins removed
From present realities.
We need to begin
Again: from now, Year Zero.
