You Poem by margaret thornton

You

</>My time I’ve spent
Mine energy spent too
Trying in vain to understand you
A fleeting moment of clarity comes
Yet with it a lifetime of confusion reigns

Many you have taken away from me
To lands of cold and bitter twisted scenes
Lavishly smothering them with promises of more
Twisting them, taunting them to follow you
To that place of soulless and lifeless fate

My heart has been heavy as I’ve missed them so dearly
Gone for many years these loved ones of mine
Though they stand here before me and their body I see
Their soul they have hidden from you and from me
Safe in the knowledge you’ll never find them here

Relentlessly pursuing them a master you’ve become
Moving them how so ever the tide of your choosing
Promising them the sanctuary of a place without feeling
Luring them with thoughts of a life without fear
Broken and lonely they follow without question

For the taste of your promise few could deny

Rest assured many more you will take as many look for a way

To move away from the pain that is felt deep within

Many casualties of your reign are not as obvious to see
Loved ones who loved those you took grieve their loss
Aimlessly searching for any way they can reach
The one you have taken and the bond you have breached
At times unable to resist a daring rescue they do try

Only to find your fortress grow high
As you gather your forces, the thoughts begin to flow
And retreat they must, worn from the fight
To wait for another day and another chance to catch sight
Of the one they have loved and always will till the day they die
