You Poem by Lexi Balla

You

You.
I thought I was safe from you.
You with your
quick wit.
You with your
encouraging remarks.
I was safe with you.
I told you
my deepest fears
my greatest strengths
my biggest joys.
The conversations we'd have?
I thought we were friends.
Not to say that you broke my heart.
Far from it.
I can't believe you'd spring this
on me.
You were my friend.
It never worked between us.
I've hardened my heart, this time.
This time.
You're not getting in.
