You Poem by Courtney Casebolt

You

I walk through the door
Run to my room
Throw my books on the floor
& Dream of a perfect groom

I lie down on the bed
My palms begin to sweat
Thoughts racing through my head
& You haven’t even called yet

The phone rings
You make me feel like a newly born Angel
Who just earned her wings
My hope begins to swell

I place you close enough to hear
With the voice of a guardian
Now dancing in my ear
I pray there’ll never be an end

I grab the closest teddy bear
As a smile sets across my face
The sweetest words filling the air
Maybe you know that I feel as delicate as lace

I’m close enough to listen
Yet too far away to hold
& Though tears of mine may glisten
Our time was as valuable as gold

Your parting voice tells me it’s time to go
You’ve got things you need to do
But there’s one thing you need to know
I’ll be waiting for you

I shall not run away
I shall not disappear
For there is no other way
Without you near

I stand alone
Gazing out the window
My mind takes me down a road
Wondering how far we’ll go

It amazes me how time passes so slowly
When you’re not around
I know you won’t leave me lonely
& I’m so glad I’ve been found

Your voice is like a lullaby
Singing me to sleep
So please don’t say goodbye
Cause in the morning I won’t have tears to weep

Your voice is like a lullaby
Your voice is like a song
Please don’t say goodbye
Because I’ve loved you all along
