You And Me Poem by Jose Ramon Sanchez

You And Me

You are the tinola and the sabow
The adobo that floats the chicken
You are the eye that sees straight
The plum in the basket
You are the morning rain
The sound of drops hitting each leaf
You are the bird that flies high
The wine in the goblet
You are not the lint in the pocket
Or the ring around the collar
In case you wanted to know,
I am the food between the teeth
The garbage can without a lid
I am the spilt milk
That runs along the crack
I am the sound of one hand clapping
The broken shoelace on one lost shoe
But together something happens
Something no one would predict
A knife can cut through butter,
A heart or rock if sharp enough
But our love is like a steel rope
It brings together opposites, lost puzzle
pieces, the scattered ruins of Pompeii,
And the Mars and Venus of our hearts
