You Don'T Own Me Poem by Adam Smitherman

You Don'T Own Me

You think you can control me?
Dress me up like a puppet and make me sing?
I'll rip off the strings.
No strings attached.
No one talking for me.
This is my voice.
My choice.
I'll stand up for myself.
Ready to take responsibility.
You don't know me like you think you do.
You think you got me under you're hand.
You think you can push me down so i can't stand.
I'll pick myself back up off the ground.
And save myself before I drown.
