You Keep Your Heart In A Glass Cage Poem by Israh Sadan

You Keep Your Heart In A Glass Cage

I see you across the room
Solidly in control
A body of self control
Detached yet in tune
You seem so strong
Yet I see you as you really are
Fragile
All the things you’ve said
To me these months makes sense:
The need for intimacy,
For safety in someone’s arms.
I realize the emotion
burning in my throat
and the passion burning my body.
I want to hold you.

You must sense me
It only took but a second,
A look from you
Not cold but clear
I hear your silent scream:
“Don’t ruin it! Tonight is about her! ”

At that moment
She touches my arm
And I look down into
A face of innocence
Filled with faith in our future
My chest swells with emotion
too for THIS fragile creature,
still more vulnerable,
so different to you.

And I look for you
To apologize with my eyes I think.
But you’ve already gone,
Removed yourself from the situation.
Ever in control

And with this selfless act
I know for sure
I love you
And I know you love me.
