You Make Someone A Promise Poem by Francis Duggan

You Make Someone A Promise

You make someone a promise the promise you should keep
For your word is your honour and your honour should not come cheap
Yet some people to break their word seem to think that's okay
People who don't have honour it would be true to say.

Those who do not lack in honour to their own selves cannot be true
And those who never break their word great credit only due
Your word your bond as it is said and that to all apply
Though some are known to give their word and then their word deny.

Many Politicians break their word trust with them not a big thing
Dishonour to their seal of office some of them only bring
Their word to them is not their bond they lie so easily
Wealthy and powerful people but their souls in poverty.

If to someone with word of mouth a promise you do make
Then you should stick by what you say your word you should not break
Your word says more about you than words of you can ever say
And if you can keep your promises then you are doing okay.
