You'Re The Only Dream Poem by JAMES T. ADAIR

You'Re The Only Dream

I search across the horizon for you
through lonely crestfallen eyes
I think I see you through the noonday haze
My heart races with desire and surprise
But as hopes rise, the image right away dies
Only a mirage, I to myself say, but it hurts so to realize

My darling
I felt your heartbeat, from so far away
certain as the dark night and clear as the day
You felt it too.. but you didn't risk to say
You couldn't chance hearbreak again so soon
So you chose to push the feeling away
But I cannot forget and so my heart does stay

I keep my feelings so close
the smother my heart; gasping for your soft breath
and falling apart
It wishes only that we reconnect and never part
A spark of love felt from the start
Love's arrow penetrated my locked and guarded heart
love you did somehow impart

I walk in the sand on desolate dunes
wander in the lagoons with the loons
I sit upon the cliffs watching soaring birds of prey
And swim with sparkling rainbow schools of fish in the bay
But none of it pushes your heart and image away
So I hang my head, weeping as I pray...

Pray for understanding of why you went away
Ask why it was, you could not let yourself stay
Why did we meet that fateful day
What was it of you that made my heart swoon and sway
I pray for a miracle you'll return someday
And forever turn your true love my way

I kick the white sand in desperation, and throw stones as far as I can throw,
like lost wishes destined disappear into the sparkling endless sea
Maybe one will wash upon your shore and lead you back to me
Exhausted, I fall, the sun burning and beating down incessantly
I'll dry and die and rot here and nobody will ever see!
But suddenly reappears a vision of thee...

I dream of you and what love could be
you're the only dream
Inside of me
