You’re The Reason Poem by Bleeding Heart

You’re The Reason

You’re The Reason
All my life, I lived to make her happy.
I lived to make her proud.
But now it is costing a price,
I am not sure I want to pay.

Before, I strived to make her proud of me,
The same way my brother had,
I felt if I didn’t to that,
She would never be proud of me.

In her eyes I felt unworthy.
That I would never be good enough.
I would never be good enough for her.
And I would never earn her acceptance.

I have worked and I have fought for her acceptance.
And I tried to earn her approval.
But no matter what I did, it was never enough.
It always was never enough.

But now I realized what price I was paying.
And who I had become, to try and please her.
I did all of this for you.
And it’s never enough for you.

Now I realized what I was doing.
And how much I put myself through,
Just to please you.
And I realized what you have done to me.

I realized that this person,
Whose face I see in the mirror,
Isn’t me…
It’s who you wanted me to be.

I’m not me!
I’m the person who does what she’s told,
And not the person I am or was a long time ago.
I let you make me into someone else.

I let you make me into this girl.
Instead of being who I really am.
I faded into you wanted…
Now I’m not sure if I’m there anymore,

You’re The Reason I’m Someone Else.
