You Will Reach Your Destination After Sunset

You will reach your destination after sunset
Dew spattering your toecaps in a distant field
As the day's last rabbit scurries to the hedgerow
You'll peer into the gloom, hoping to spot
A friendly farmer, a bus stop at least
You'll see nothing but a darkening lane
But you won't care; if you walk all night
Under the moon you'll still smile at yourself
Still circling under the clouds.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
The first line of this poem was composed by a friend's paragliding navigation instrument as he began a flight quite late in the day. I wrote the rest.
