Your Past Remains With You Poem by Francis Duggan

Your Past Remains With You

Your past remains with you like an unforgettable song
And wherever you go to with you it goes along
For some reason you may hide it from others but in you it will stay
For as long as you live until your last night and day
Your past may be gone but you cannot leave it behind
It lives on in you as a memory in your mind
For one reason or other or your sense of pride
There are things in your life that from others you wish to hide
Most of us our human flaws to others we do not wish to show
There are things about you that others you do not wish to know
In most of us this need to be loved is a human thing
And most of us like it when others our praises do sing
Any negative thing from our past to others we will not tell
In some cases secrecy does serve us well.
