Your Smile Poem by Alejandro Torres

Your Smile

What should I do
To make that smile appear
Should I climb Everest
And plant a flag
On your heart
Should I travel to the moon
Without oxygen
To scream your name
With my last breath
Should I run a marathon
To champion your heart
Face an army of millions
And stop arrows
That would blot out the sun
With my heart
So you would smile
Just once
Should I spend a lifetime
Proving myself with written verse
You’d pay no mind to
To have something to show
For the hours spent
Pining
Should I sing you songs
At the top of my lungs
In the tone of my ancestors
To gain even a coquettish glance
You always did have a fondness
For vagabonds
But whisper on the wind
Just one secret
Of how to get that half grin
And I’d spend a millennia
Chasing the wind
To catch that secret
Of your smile
