Why thanks so much for dropping by.
It was kind to think of me.
Oh, I look down? Ah, yes, the frown:

Be careful in your friendships;
Be wary of your thrills,
For when the pitcher overflows,
Is the extra all that spills?

A Lonely Reverie

Why thanks so much for dropping by.
It was kind to think of me.
Oh, I look down? Ah, yes, the frown:
'Tis just my reverie.

I was thinking when you came
Of the friends I've never known.
And I fought against the thought
That I'm feeling quite alone.

I have family that loves me.
There are those I could befriend.
I don't know why I need to cry;
When it's something I can mend.

Everybody seems to like me.
My enemies are few.
If I but tried, I'm sure that I'd
Pick up a friend or two.

And yet I still feel lonely.
Perhaps I can explain.
It's always I who needs to try
If there's a friend I can attain.

What I need; what I'd like
Is for a friend to look for me.
It's only this I can't dismiss:
This that caused my reverie.

And so I wonder as I sit
If ever there will be
So great a dearth of men on earth
That friends will seek out me.

But don't feel pressured to condole me.
You can just ignore my drone.
For I've spent years in lonely tears.
I can dry them... on my own.
