i sometimes get to thinking why can't we just share the darkness tonight,
i'm not saying nothing, i'm being polite,
the darkness and quietness of the night somehow make it all feel right,
a close and unbridled understanding,
...
On the front lines in a war on hurt and hate,
a wounded friend lay with her spirit ebbing,
she cried out for help in a desperate plea,
not knowing if anyone was listening.
...
The Glass Wall
i sometimes get to thinking why can't we just share the darkness tonight,
i'm not saying nothing, i'm being polite,
the darkness and quietness of the night somehow make it all feel right,
a close and unbridled understanding,
where you can listen to my spoken thoughts and i see your strife,
the broken spirit of an unloved girl's life,
you gave your soul to the one who should give their soul in return,
they kept your soul and their own, unaware your goodwill would burn,
till starved of love and hurt by ignorance and burned to black hatred,
you turned away to a friend who could reflect your care with love
and then you understood what it means to be warm-hearted,
to be gazed at with fondness and a concern based on selfless love
but then the glass wall came between us,
a misunderstanding thundering rage,
lacking reflection,
the best times we ever had got suspended for a while.
