Not A Professional

I'm an amateur pyrotechnician,
Not a professional, and that worries me.

So when Mercedes lured me
into that cold dark night,
I was craven.

She beckoned from the distance
Before whispering in my ear.

She said, 'Well you's know somethin' Gabe, with some lighters and a match, We's could watch this world burn! '
So we did.

First we burned our bridges.
Then we burned our homes.
At last, we burned our hearts, so that we could never feel again.
And I wedged both inside the crevice under the jettied dock.
