Vogel wipt.
Tak kraakt.
Lucht betrekt.
Bijna niets
om naar te kijken
en juist dat
bekijk ik.
...
Bird bounces.
Branch creaks.
Sky clouds over.
Almost nothing
to look at
and that's just
what I look at.
...
Het gedicht is niet eenzaam.
Het is alleen. Soms hoor ik het
op het stompe water in de avond
als een zeil in zijn kerend wit, een
lichte huiver waarin we geen woorden
gebruiken, maar ze bekijken in onszelf.
...
The poem is not lonely.
It is self-willed. Sometimes I hear it
on the blunt water in the evening
like a sail in its turning white, a
light shiver we can't use words
in, though they shift within ourselves.
...
Wegnemen,
schrijven is
wegnemen,
waardoor
ik enkel nog
een baksteenrode
bloempot
op het raamkozijn
laat staan
en valavond
als met potlood
een hoek van de kamer
zie vullen.
...
Taking away
writing is
taking away,
so that
all I leave
is a flower-pot
standing brick-red
on the window-sill
and watch twilight
fill in a corner
of the room
like a pencil.

Voor J.H.
Nergens een plek
voor de rusteloze. De kunst
komt nooit meer thuis, haar schuilplaats
kent geen tijd
Voor elke hinderlaag
een hink-stap-sprong, een
waagstuk in het durvend
donker
Hoeveel klanken glijden
uit, hoeveel stoornissen suizen
nog na: we strelen schrille
snaren
Een scheur heeft schoonheid
in het doek gekerfd, op straat
ligt als verstomd een colablikje
tot sculptuur geschopt, het Niets
vraagt om een sokkel
We kwelen dissonanten
in de bomen nu het later
wordt en aan het avondmeer
de waanzin van de maan
zich weer in ons
weerspiegelt
...
For J.H.
There is no place
for the restless. Art
will not come home again,
its hiding-place knows no time
For every ambush
a hop, step and a jump, a
hazardous stint in the daring
dark
How many notes lose
their footing, what turmoil
soughs on: we caress shrill
strings
A rip has gouged out
beauty in canvas, in the street
a can of coke kicked
into a sculpture lies muted,
Nothing asks for a plinth
We croon dissonances
in the trees now it is getting
late and on the evening lake
the madness of the moon
once again is mirrored
in us
...
Gestalte of denkbeeld
Ik hoor een sleutel
Koude blaft
Is er nog warmte
van sneeuwen
op schuinte
Papier mompelt
alsof het zijn inhoud
verfrommelt
In de beslommerde kamer
ontfluistert zich
haar gezicht
Het donker stapt tot
het te laat is
...
Form or notion
I hear a key
Coldness barks
Is there warmth left
from snowing
on the bias
Paper mumbles
as if scrunching up
its content
In the muddled room
her face
unwhispers
Darkness strides till
it is too late
...
