At this moment it seems painfully real

That all my life I have been traversing empty streets

I tasted the sea
In the pallor of your lips
Where all my rivers sang
And my thoughts flew

Twilight

At this moment it seems painfully real

That all my life I have been traversing empty streets

Littered with fallen flowers

At this moment

Nothing stands at the brink of nothingness
The sunset, the yellow leaves, the skyscrapers, the light
All lie frozen
The closing wings of dense shadows
Of some pain lodged in the corners of the heart
Are perhaps a premonition
Of the last round of my footsteps in winding streets
Perhaps a memory
Of the empty kisses lying planted in vacant teacups
In wayside hotels where who knows whether anyone will ever come or not
The lonely soul suffering perpetual mutilation
In the radio news-reels, teleprinters, under a red eyed traffic
The hackneyed soul chased by a thousand horsefaces
Of working men perspiring their way back home
The starved soul stretching into infinite desire
Of a coloured balloon suspended over the Howrah bridge
Can their be any answer to this loneliness?
Can these meditating lanes, the coloured skies, the homebound birds ever console me?
Underneath the Hooghly flows
Chanting an old, old song
Of fishes and fishermen
Overhead the sombre painted clouds
Drag a veil over the world
Theirs is a Disneyland
A twilight empire about to fall into its ruins
Can all these be an answer to my loneliness, will these lenghthening shadows
This trance of twilight ever console me?
