Driven by nightmares and fears
From the north to the west
From the east to the south
For reasons known and not unknown

Affirmatively denoting denials
Alteration of utterances
Indication of inconsistencies
Ponder and wonder a bit longer
...

It's a cold, cold world we're living in
Millions of children living today
Are abused and used, while they cry or die
If they are the future, our future

Refugees

Driven by nightmares and fears
From the north to the west
From the east to the south
For reasons known and not unknown
Our plights told or untold
With memories of ghastly experiences
That play again and again in our minds
Excruciating and ghostly recollections
Memories that permeate our very existence
We stand at your doorsteps and knock
Protection and not rejection, we ask
Assistance and not resistance, we need

Though disorientated, distressed, dejected
Disheartened, desperate, disillusioned
Distracted and discouraged we may be
Our humanity we boldly uphold
Our rights to live, we exercise
Our hopes and courage, we maintain
Weep not Refugees, be strong and be hopeful
For a home away from home, we seek
