The faint fluting of a crimson rosella and a butcherbird he pipes then all is still
And a gray fog in the chill of early morning surrounds the high gum trees of One Tree Hill
The houses are dwarfed by the tall trees around them and why
they call it One Tree Hill I wonder why?

The gum tree is Australian as Aussie as can be
And there's no more Australian than the eucalyptus tree
They have been in Australia perhaps since life began
Thousands and thousands of years before coming of man.

In the City of Sydney at Blackwattle Bay
An environmental crime was committed not in light of day
But in the dark of night someone poisoned some trees
Many of which bore flowers for pollinating bees

Such a nice work of Nature and pretty for to see
And pleasant for to scent it's leaves the peppercorn tree
To look at not unlike the weeping willow it's branches hanging down
A thing of natural beauty in a garden of the town,

One more tree that's cut down for development one less tree for a bird to perch upon
And every tree less in the Woodland means that soon the Woodland will be forever gone
And lost to the future generations where trees once were only houses to be seen
Where beauty was only gray and ugly concrete to cover Mother Nature's face of green.

In the cold winds of Winter she stands thorny and bare
In Summer large beautiful red flowers she did wear
The Rose tree of Winter not a pretty sight
At a time of year with litle warmth in the sunlight,

The rose in bloom looks beautiful but the thorns on her stem can pain
And if you get pricked by a rose bush thorn the lesson you'll retain
And next time of those thorns you surely will beware
For a jab from the rose's defensive weapon needs some tender loving care.

In the famed poet C J Dennis 'Singing Gardens' at Toolangi on a visit to there in nineteen ninety three
I saw a tree of historical interest a plaque card read this is John Masefield's Tree
It was planted by England's Poet Laureate when he visited Dennis and the sapling into a big tree did grow
A memory of when a great poet met a great poet though that was more than seventy years ago.

Last year's leaves withered and dry
Beneath their leafless mother lie
On this cold day in January
I pity you poor leafless tree.

On the gum tree on the road side I can hear the unmelodious crow
Cawing in the gathering twilight his voice I have come to know
He doesn't seem worried by the weather though it has rained for most of the day
He is proclaiming his borders and Spring doesn't seem that far away.

For the very thought of leaving bring teardrops to my eyes

On Nature and life scientists may disagree

They call this tree the Soldier's Tree
It honours one whose life blood was shed
A victim of the First World War
'Lest we forget our soldier dead'.

Than their cousins house sparrows they are far more shy
The moment they see you into bushes or trees they do fly
They do look attractive when seen in the sunlight
Though in colouration from the house sparrows the difference does seem slight.

In Australia the last sunday in July is National Tree Planting Day
The Green Groups in the National parks tree planting for love of the environment they plant trees without pay
The weather to them is not a deterrent they work in the cold morning breeze
Even heavy rain does not deter them the Greenies are out planting trees.
