National Tree Day Poem by Francis Duggan

National Tree Day

In Australia the last sunday in July is National Tree Planting Day
The Green Groups in the National parks tree planting for love of the environment they plant trees without pay
The weather to them is not a deterrent they work in the cold morning breeze
Even heavy rain does not deter them the Greenies are out planting trees.

The Greenies are true friends of Nature as people them I do admire
I see them as heroes and heroines of singing their praises I never could tire
The mum and dad planting with their young children 'tis by good example they lead
Lets drink a toast to every Greenie more people like them we do need.

The children of the Greenies Environmental Warriors of the future the love of Nature handed down
The Greenies out working for Nature in parks of the old coastal town
They are planting trees as homes for wildlife for birds for to nest on and sing
Without trees the children of the future would only know of a silent Spring.

A chilly and Wintery morning of a cold high of seven degrees
In parks in the towns and the cities the greenies are out planting trees
They are the friends of our Earth Mother environmental warriors of them one can say
People of all ages and races and genders from children to the ageing and gray.
