Willie Lou Shirley Poems

We had a Rambouillet buck sheep
You would never want to meet
Because every time I turned my back,
He would butt me off my feet.
...

Way back in the thirties
We had our Saturday fun
By taking our bath in a washtub
In water headed by the sun
...

Red Spot was a nanny goat
With a red spot on her face,
She led the sheep and goats to water;
Them we didn't have to chase.

The Old Buck Sheep

We had a Rambouillet buck sheep
You would never want to meet
Because every time I turned my back,
He would butt me off my feet.

One day I wasn't looking
And I walked toward the old south mill.
That rascal came at me from behind
And kept me rolling down the hill.

My daddy laughed about it
Till he saw it was too rough,
Then he said "I'll pen the old sheep up
Because enough has been enough

So the old buck sheep and I
Would get along just fine
If he'd stay on his side of the fence,
I for sure would stay on mine.
