(002) Grandma

She died trying to tell her grandson a story,
of a life filled with love and glory.
She told him of succulent greens,
of water streaming through paths unseen.

With her gentle smiling face,
eyes welling up with tears.
She spoke of the happiness,
he gave her through the years.

She took two long deep breaths,
her eyes opened wide.
Oh it’s so beautiful, so beautiful
here on the other side.

Don’t be afraid my sweet baby boy,
you must not cry for me.
My eyes are opened to the Lord,
now I can truly see.

The Love I have inside,
I’ll take along with me.
To hold until that bless-ed day
we unite again- you’ll see.

What a prolific writer you are up there in the North. I too am a Canadian living in the US. I would wonder what you might think of my poem 'Cannot Return'? You share the name of my first mother-in-law hence the middle name of my second daughter. It is with nostalgia that I always first click on the Canada flag.

I wished to read this poem because I was thinking of my granny and missing her...and then I spotted your title Melvina! Simply a terrific write that brings me to the day of when we thought we lost my granny..but she was ok, only to be taken away a few monthes later.Truly a heartwrenching piece whether we unite on otherside or not...even though I know we do, .. I just know it hurts so much this crazy reality we call death.
Thans for sharing my friend.......10
