  In memory of Leonard Opalov

To me Latvian poets seemed quite rare,
But I knew one called Leonard Opalov.
He wrote me charming letters from The Bronx
before cancer made him change his address.

I wrote his eulogy for 'Bitterroot',
A magazine that honored Leonard's verse.
The birds of New York sing his poetry.
More than a few love Yiddish, I am told.

'Previously published, 'The World Poets Quarterly', China

Hi Sandra

I love this, especially the line 'The birds of New York sing his poetry'. Through reading your heartfelt words I've been searching the web for Leonard's poems. I'm intrigued to know more x

A fine Tribute indeed and as usual your word flow does this so much justice. A bittersweet poem in that he had cancer but the birds of New York singing his poems resonates to the music singing in my heart. 10 love Karin
