A Christmas Carol, 1 year on

There was something that Dickens forgot to mention,
So I thought I’d bring it to your attention.
Something he didn’t consider huge
Enough to impart about Ebeneezer Scrooge.
Now I’m sure that you do remember
What happened to him one 25th December.
When he discovered Christmas Cheer,
But what happened the following year?
I can now tell you with the aid of this rhyme,
How Scrooge behaved around Christmas time.
Well the story starts around December 23rd,
When Scrooge singing a carol could be heard.
Unfortunately he has a terrible voice
And it sounds even worse when it does rejoice.
And to the old folks that he was trying to entertain,
It just sounded like the poor man was in pain.
And even if he wasn’t, the old folks sure were
As they had this horrible sound to endure.
It was so bad that one old person did hear,
“I preferred him the way he was this time last year.
You know when he was such a misery
As mean and as tight as a person can be.”
And it wasn’t just the old folks who thought this to be true,
The children of the orphanage hated Scrooges singing too.
When he went down there to spread a little cheer
He produced a sound that they didn’t want to hear.
“Why is he punishing us? ” a small child enquired,
“I thought from being evil he had retired.”
Everyone complained when Scrooge burst into song,
Even Tiny Tim believed it to be wrong.
He just didn’t know how to break it to him
As Scrooge had been so good to Tiny Tim.
So when he was asked to mention it
The following was said by Tim Cratchit,
“If I could change just one thing
It would be for Scrooge not to sing.
But I don't want Scrooge to revert to ways of old,
When he was mean and nasty and cold.
So nothing will be all I will say
To ensure that his Christmas spirit does stay.”
But on the night of Christmas Eve
Something happened that you won’t believe.
Scrooges voice was feeling bad,
He’d been singing today more than he ever had.
So he thought that it would be best
To give his voice a bit of a rest.
So early to bed, Scrooge did go,
He got into bed with a cheery, “Ho Ho Ho.”
As he had already made up his mind
That tomorrow he will be really kind.
He will stroll down the streets of the old town
Singing songs to help remove anyone’s frown.
He really believed that they’d appreciate this
When really they’d rather give it a miss.
So when Scrooge went to bed he really did savour,
The belief that he was going to do London a favour.
But there is something I thought that you should know
The same thing happened that happened a year ago.
There was a visitor to Scrooges room that night,
Whose very presence gave Scrooge an awful fright.
“What do you want? ” Said Scrooge to the ghost,
As he tried to hide behind the bedpost.
“Scrooge! ” said the spirit, “You must change your ways.
You have been upsetting everyone these past few days.”
“But” Scrooge replied, “I have been kind and good,
I have behaved the way the Spirits said I should.”
“I do not believe, ” the spectre did reply,
“That my colleagues told you to make orphans cry.
So grab my cape and come back to your past.”
Scrooge said “I hoped my trip last year would be the last.”
“Something was omitted, ” The Spirit he did say,
“So I have been told to show you it today.”
So the spirit took him back into his days of school,
When it looked really festive and nice for the Yule.
And the spirit showed him something that did transpire,
The day that Scrooge was forbidden to join the choir.
He wanted to join for the Christmas season,
The spirit then said, “There was a reason
As to why you weren’t allowed and we’re here because
I need to show you how bad your singing was.
And, I don’t want to be mean, but it’s still the same
That is why tonight to you I came.”
Scrooge thought for a while and then said, “Oh I see
And ceasing of the singing is what you require from me? ”
“Yes! ” exclaimed the spirit. “It’s what all London does want
And we all do really wish it won’t be too inconvenient.”
Scrooge he then did shrug and say “No it will be fine.
I’m sure there are better voices, in London, than mine.”
So was Scrooge as good as his word? Well this will make you laugh,
The only time Scrooge sung was when he was in the bath.

Very good, as good as 'Twas the Night Before Christmas'. But just one little thought: 'sung' should be 'sang'. I don't know the rule, but 'sang' is proper past tense, otherwise it would have to be 'had sung', and I don't think that would go very well with the meter.
