A Pocket Full Of Promises
A pocket full of promises
An empty gesture
A demeaning word,
Can deflate the soul of many
To the weakness of a bird.
An insincere attitude
If met when feeling low
Can destroy a persons confidence
To the depth no-one would wish to know,
The weak would buckle under
The strong soon would rise above,
If only there was a level playing field
Fed with thought, care and love.

I agree with your closing lines..whoever said words can never hurt me
was very wrong..words can start a war!
It is terrifyingly easy for mere words to bring devastation when you're already on the ropes and struggling to remain on your feet. A top notch write here.
Haters hate that's all. How people treat others says more about them than the people they disrespect. I really like this poem! It stirred me up: -)
There really are so many people that are so thoughtless as this. But then there are many more of the kinder gentler ones, that make your day with one single word. Grat poem.
I think people who demean others do so because of their own insecurities. Best to shut them out of your life! Excellent poem!
If only, Heather. The big and strong always get the prize, but the meek shall inherit the earth it is said - I have yet to see evidence of that! ! Good poem.
A great poem, people are always ready to put
People down who don't seem to be as strong as them.
A great write.
