A Time To Remember

You know Julie
(I know this is not your name)
there was also a time

when people was yet to learn
how to divide
brotherhood

when people was yet to learn
how to ignore
friendship

when people was yet to learn
how to fight
with neighbors

when people was yet to learn
how to weigh someone's value
in terms of money.

You know Julie
(I know this is not your name)
I was very happy at that time.

The old year went, and the new returned, in the withering weeks of drought,
The cheque was spent that the shearer earned,
and the sheds were all cut out;
