Adieu, mein Seelenufer (nach Byron: Adieu, Adieu! My Native Shore)

Nach George Gordon Lord Byron:
Adieu, Adieu! My Native Shore

Ihr holden Ufer, die ihr mich auferzogt,
Stillt ihr der Liebe Leiden …?
Hölderlin

Adieu, mein Seelenufer traut!
Die Wasser wechseln das Kleid;
Spät streicht der Wind den Wogenlaut,
Wo wild die Möwe schreit.

Die Sonne sinkt rot in das Meer -
Gebannt von ihrer Pracht
Zieht mit ihr dir mein Gruß einher,
Mein Seelenland, zur Nacht.

Und wenn es auf den Wogen brennt,
Wo früh der Morgen blaut,
Da grüß ich Flut und Firmament -
Doch nicht mein Ufer traut!

Versunken, bleibt mein Seelenland
Im Herzen nur Gespür;
Vorm Haus rankt Reblaub an der Wand,
Mein Hund jault an der Tür.

Poem of the Day

poet Robert Frost

Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I've tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
