B.. Alexander ('81)
Always Waiting For...
In my hotel room styled like the 1980s
I look out into the coal black sky
And see the city shine down below me
Squinting at the lights, I'm lost in beauty
Always wanting to be a part of it
I'm always waiting
For some change
I'm sure is coming...
Drawing out of the station on a Friday
My eyes are glued onto the window
As the city thins and melts away around me
To a rolling land of green beauty
Always wanting to be one with it
I'm always waiting
On some thing
I'm hoping is approaching...
Walking the old cul-de-sacs of teenage
Still scared at night but still inspired
Down to the river and friends by a fire
Flame shadows dance on faces of beauty
Always wanting to be one of them
I'm always waiting
For some solution
I have gambled on so long...
When I was Seventeen
I feel in love with beauty
I fell for romance and for perfection
(Though neither are in me)
Now I walk the streets; a stranger
Always waiting on an answer
Always wanting to understand
In the bumper-car maze of drunkards
Who stutter down Saturday's dark pavements
I'm no closer or further than ever
From that unattainable, misguided beauty
Always wanting to connect with something
I'm always waiting
For that moment
I can make some sense...
Something's always missing
Something's never said
Always waiting for...
I'm always waiting for...
Perhaps it's some other girl
Perhaps it's you
Perhaps it's death; a union
A release for all this wondering
I'm always waiting
Always waiting for
That moment when
I am finally set free
(From always waiting for...)
