Away then fly yon bird of peace And spread your wings across the land, So red with blood and scarred by shell May you then greet each soldier's hand, Your love all hatred could dispel That rages through that weary line, So arms be laid down in the mud And then once more the sun would shine.
So sing for joy as you now go And may your music fill the air, For you alone can find a way To end this sadness and despair, Sail through the smoke the battles bore Let peace descend from clouds above, And fall like rain upon those men And show the way to lasting love.
Fly on! Fly on! My feathered friend Across the hills and mountains roam, Until the guns lay silent fly To make this land again your home, For then the flowers will bloom once more And blossom form upon the bough, The winds of war shall then be stilled And all shall heed your lasting vow.
