Awkward Silence in the Kitchen

That routine awkward silence in the kitchen
As slowly the kettle boils. Mug ready. Inside
The coffee and sugar await but still the kettle boils.
With each passing second the atmosphere thickens
As steam crawls up the ash coloured tiles

My father breaks the deadlock first
“So how was your day.” He didn’t care
“Same old” I replied. The silence ruined.

Finally the kettles handle pops and my
Mug is filled
“Goodnight”
“Um” he replied.

It certainly reminds me of the akward silences i experience all the time. Out there in my poem collection there should be a similar one - but can't come up with the name at this time. Its an excellent piece of work, full of sadness and regret. Well done.
