Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I'm telling lies.
...
You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may tread me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I'll rise.
...
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
...
Hold fast to dreams
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird
That cannot fly.
...
Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
...
It was many and many a year ago,
In a kingdom by the sea,
That a maiden there lived whom you may know
By the name of ANNABEL LEE;
...
The free bird leaps
on the back of the wind
and floats downstream
till the current ends
...
The most important thing we've learned,
So far as children are concerned,
Is never, NEVER, NEVER let
Them near your television set -
...
Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village, though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

Writing a poem is not about bringing some words together to create some charming sentences. It's so much deeper than that. Writing poetry is a bridge that allows people to express their feelings and make others live every single word they read. Poetry is to educate people, to lead them away from hate to love, from violence to mercy and pity. Writing poetry is to help this community better understand life and live it more passionately. PoemHunter.com contains an enormous number of famous poems from all over the world, by both classical and modern poets. You can read as many as you want, and also submit your own poems to share your writings with all our poets, members, and visitors.
Father is quite the greatest poet
That ever lived anywhere.
You say you’re going to write great music—
I chose that first: it’s unfair.
Besides, now I can’t be the greatest painter and
do Christ and angels, or lovely pears
and apples and grapes on a green dish,
or storms at sea, or anything lovely,
Because that’s been taken by Claire.
It’s stupid to be an engine-driver,
And soldiers are horrible men.
I won’t be a tailor, I won’t be a sailor,
And gardener’s taken by Ben.
It’s unfair if you say that you’ll write great
music, you horrid, you unkind (I sim-
ply loathe you, though you are my
sister), you beast, cad, coward, cheat,
bully, liar!
Well? Say what’s left for me then!
But we won’t go to your ugly music.
(Listen!) Ben will garden and dig,
And Claire will finish her wondrous pictures
All flaming and splendid and big.
And I’ll be a perfectly marvellous carpenter,
and I’ll make cupboards and benches
and tables and ... and baths, and
nice wooden boxes for studs and
money,

I will not play at tug o' war.
I'd rather play at hug o' war,
Where everyone hugs
Instead of tugs,
Where everyone giggles
And rolls on the rug,
Where everyone kisses,
And everyone grins,
And everyone cuddles,
And everyone wins.

I loved her.
She hated me.
I still love her.
She still hates me.
I don't know her side of the story.
She doesn't know mine.
We never shared each other's side.
But from my side of the story,
She doesn't know what she means to me.
She doesn't know what I feel.

I miss you Mom
Heartbeat of our family
I miss those arms
That face that loves me

Morning, afternoon and evening has already ended

From an immeasurable distance,

A small hill rests on Arafat's wide plain,
Where mercy fell like gentle rain,
They call it the Mount where mercy stays
A quiet witness to ancient days.
...
A valley small, where tents take flight,
White canvas seas beneath the light,
Not gold, not marble, not a throne
Just simple cloth, just sacred stone.
...
No tent tonight, no roof, no wall,
Just open sky above us all,
The ground their bed, the stars their light,
Stripped of comfort, stripped of pride this night.
...
From noon till the sun begins to bow,
We gather on the plain, here and now,
No tents of comfort, no shade, no rest,
Just open skies upon every chest.

Between Safa and Marwa
Between two hills where mercy flows,
A mother's footsteps, the story shows
Hajar ran with a desperate breath,

I dwell
In the absence
You left behind

If you die before me
I would jump down into your grave
and hug you so innocently
that angels will become jealous.

Beautiful is the 'thank you'
Wrapped with gratitude,
Offered to peace prone people
Who offer what is real-themselves

Indoors by technology, outdoors by speedy transport
I travel the world
Today in Japan, tomorrow in Rome,
Next day by an ancient civilization or in Hawaii or Coast Ivory,

The low lands call
I am tempted to answer
They are offering me a free dwelling
Without having to conquer
