Ephraim and Manasseh

Down into Egypt did young Joe sojourn
As the slave of a band of travelers spurn
Sold to the kings of shepherd stock
The servant of the prison keeper's lock

After many a year of hardship and lies
His intellect shown forth to those who were wise
He was placed over all the Egyptian council
And given a wife of priestly counsel

When Jacob his father was close to his rest
He blessed Joseph's sons with the firstborn's best
To Ephraim the younger it would come to be given
A kingdom of nations the greatest ever livin'

Manasseh the eldest would also be great
And both with the blessings of good fruitful fate
The British Commonwealth fulfilled God's plan
With America their brother lending a hand

Must The Civil War open those eyes who can't see
Bull Run was Manassas where the North had to flee
Wake up you ding-dongs must have been the Lord's call
See I've given the South some generals like Stonewall

And off in the West so soon shall you see
Two generals who know how to defeat the great Lee
At Shiloh there has fallen far too many men
In blood shall your stupid enslavement end

Ephraim became a multitude of nations
The British Commonwealth fulfilled that prophecy
Manasseh has become a great dominion
America is fulfilling her destiny
(Manassas is where two major battles were fought
It was the first engagement of The Civil War)
Both nations have the blessings given Joseph brought
Fruitfulness past compare from God their protector

Poem of the Day

poet John Clare

I love to see the old heath's withered brake
Mingle its crimpled leaves with furze and ling,
While the old heron from the lonely lake
Starts slow and flaps its melancholy wing,
