First Front Flip

i climb the ladder
rung by slippery rung
going endlessly
up
up
up
touching the clouds
i finally see the top
i pull myself to the landing
greeted by the rough board
that steadies my wet feet
and inch slowly to the edge
looking down
i fret and regret
my foolish decision
to jump from such a height
i build up my nerve
and take a deep breath

one,

two,

three,

i jump

i turn agonizingly slow
praying to complete
a full rotation
head down i break the surface
of the water that was once foreboding
i completed
my first front flip

Poem of the Day

poet Edgar Allan Poe

Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary,

While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
