My father believed, but I knew he was wrong.
Born a hundred years too late to think the way he did.
Saying this is America and anyone could make it,
if you get yourself a good education and work hard
at what you’re doing.
Him not seeing race religion or sexual preference
as a barrier in a country obsessed with all three.
My father believed and I guess deep down inside,
I do too now.
Cause the acorn really doesn’t fall from the tree
in the long run!
And besides.
You have to give your kids something to
shoot for.
Cause every now and then one does squeeze through
the cracks.
Like your cousins kid.
The one that doesn’t want anything to do with
the family anymore.
