Mandolyn ...

hey dipstick, this is for you

fit this in an open field-
i like the way you drop your shield,
how you yield, as i wield my rhyme,
do my time

(yes, you-
Toyota tundra, silver smile
~oh so silver; slick straw hat
headed uphill...
you never still me, steal me,
stall me?

parentheses, parents you see
don't discipline their kids
these days

but what does that have to do with you?
i'd maul you in a forest
like a big ol' grizzly bear
and build you a chair
from my fur

(keep going?)

if you were a mast on a boat
i'd poke you with my split ends
when the wind sniffed my locks

you'd drop
and we'd no longer sail
we'd stop the clock
i'd wrap you up
into a body pillow
and hug the sea salt out of you-

(not enough?)

when you walk in the room
my joints pop
my heart whips around
its barn red valve
and my feelings tackle you
in the entryway,
before you can even smell
what's cooking in the kitchen

it's biscuits baby
honey butter- c'mere lover
we're gonna stew
until the world mistakes itself
for heaven

(is this at 11?)

i'll leave teeth marks; bark
so i know you're at the door
waiting for me
to let you in
so you can go out again-

tell me if the weather
is better
than my see-through sweater
and it's not even cold-
(too bold?)

did i win?
(give me letters that start with
the position i'm in)

Poem of the Day

poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

I heard the bells on Christmas day
Their old familiar carols play,
And wild and sweet the words repeat
Of peace on earth, good will to men.
