I Live For A Purpose - Poem by Comfort Ndlovu

Play Poem Video

To make my future bright,
To grasp all opportunities in sight,
To set the future hopes alight,
To spring up in utility and flight -
not by power nor by might
but by Him who created day and night -
I cling tightly to my potential,
I imagine and initiate things substantial
Because I'm a firm hearted child
pursuing a lone path -
a lone path to success -
a narrow, dusty pathway to Destiny,
Yes, I'm a proud African child
and I, and I, and I live for a purpose!

To break new grounds,
To rhyme with all lively sounds,
I hold fast to my dreams,
I shout above all screams...
I do it all with vigor and virtue,
I do it all to inform the future;
I plunge into a fountain of creativity and activity,
I climb up a mountain of reason and responsibility;
I am better than an elf
And I'll never compromise myself
Because I'm a firm-hearted child
and I, and I, and I live for a purpose!

I play like a superstar,
I eat like a superstar,
I walk like a superstar,
I talk like a superstar;
I reason with analysts,
I rub shoulders with finalists,
I train with medalists,
I give counsel to pompous journalists,
I shine brighter than a star on the high
and I tirelessly spread my wings towards the sky
Because I'm a firm-hearted child
and I, and I, and I live for a purpose!

Poet's Notes about The Poem

Did not God create me with his right hand? What, then, or who, can succeedingly sink my ship of dreams in the seas of unsolicited criticism?
