If Instead!

If instead had you said, how impatiently you waited for me
If instead could I say, very calmly I didn't at all wait for you.

If instead had you said, how earnestly you thought for me
If instead could I say, very smartly I didn't at all think for you.

If instead had you said, how sincerely you cared for me
If instead could I say, very boldly I didn't at all care for you.

If instead had you said, how eagerly you longed for me
If instead could I say, very carelessly I didn't at all long for you.

If instead had you said, how lonely you felt for me
If instead could I say, very indifferently I didn't at all feel for you.

If instead had you said, how every moment you died for me
If instead could I say, very honestly I didn't at all die for you.

If instead had you said, how badly you missed me
If instead could I say, very surely I didn't at all miss you.

If instead had you said, how deeply you loved me
If instead could I say, very thankfully I didn't at all love you.

If instead would you have written this poem for me
If instead would I have not read this poem at all for you.

'If instead' of fighting, we spent time on reaching agreements; If instead of religious intolerance leading to suicide bombings, we planted flowers in each other's gardens, If instead of writing this comment, I went off to have some coffee.. this world would be a different place - I'm writing this comment, instead of going off to coffee - I can bring my coffee here. this is thought-provoking and enchanting - my 10, Kumar (Report) Reply

'If' becomes two letters of immense importance in this excellent poem.
Fascinating dialogue between two souls who long to reach out to
each other if only they could. Ten for you.
