What do you think this poem is about?

MEAT ME IN THE MIDDLE

I am sitting on the fence, but teetering on the edge

To whether I should stop eating meat, and stick to just veg

I love beef, chicken and I really love lamb

I love duck, venison and especially ham

Most of us eat meat; this is a fact that is true

But I have never given a thought; to how the animals die… have you?

Some animals get a bolt put through their head

Shake for a minute, before they are dead

Legal murder goes on behind doors that are shut

Animals die in their hundreds, having their throats cut

They say this method, is the most humane

The say the animals, do not feel any pain

Come on people… pull the other one

How do you know? Unless you have had it done?

Fish… they suffocate slowly to death

Wriggling and writhing, as they fight to catch a breathe

Some die under all the other fishes weight

Their bodies collapse as they meet their fate

I love steak, mince and I love offal

But maybe I should eat meat that is Halal

o.k., so the animals still have to die

But in a kinder way and I shall tell you why

First of all, the animals have a drink and get fed

Then over there alive bodies, a prayer is then read

The animals do not get killed, in front of each other

A baby calf, will not be killed in front of its mother

The animals get killed, with one swipe of a sharp knife

Putting a quick end, to the animals life

I tried some Halal meat the other day

And to my surprise, and to my dismay

The meat tasted sweet and pure

Will I carry on eating it? I am not too sure

At the end of the day, the animals still die

Get made into burgers, thrown into a pie

Get stuffed into sausages, shoved into tins

Clothes and coats are made from their skins

Do I really need to eat meat?

Do I need it to make my diet complete?

So that is why, I’m teetering on the edge

To whether I should stop eating meat and stick to eating veg
